Initially when I had my big chop, people asked “Why did you cut your hair?” All I could offer was a shrug.

I wasn’t sure why I cut my hair. I guess the constant flat-ironing was not only damaging to my hair but a chore. And having relaxed hair just became so un-extraordinary. So I began skipping touch-ups and soon I enjoyed washing my hair and feeling the kinks returning. I lived for something that was organically me.

In Chrisette Michele’s interview with Afrobella.com, she sums up the natural transition in a realistic manner. “For freedom, not for beauty.”

Precisely! To not trip over a flat/curling iron cord when I’m trying to get ready for work. To not worry about the burn factor that comes along with scratching my scalp before getting a relaxer. To not feel so addicted to a chemical substance to define my beauty (Inhaling…..exhaling), truly liberating.

Was I beautiful with a relaxer? Yes. Am I still beautiful with my natural? Of course. And going natural isn’t for everyone and that’s cool. But for me, the freedom to be organically me is an overwhelming journey. A journey I’m thankful for each passing day.

Freedom Theory a work in progress

So I did it. After being convinced by my lady I decided to give tumblr a try. Our website was previously hosted on wordpress.org I must admit I’m pretty excited and look forward to the change. We will also be relaunching our shopping cart (which will have some great new shirt design and accessories) very soon before the end of May. We have revised the shop from top to bottom to ensure better product display, user friendly interface, and a faster checkout process. Hopefully the new features will engage you all and give you a closer feel for our brand.

Love, peace, and hairgrease.

"We will not remember the words of evil people, but the silence of our friends."

“We will not remember the words of evil people, but the silence of our friends.”

- MLK
